Cales Coves, the last hippie stronghold in Menorca!
Cales Coves is a bay with a couple of small coves and in whose cliffs we can find a series of artificial caves excavated and known as the Necropolis of Cales Coves. These caves are of a funerary nature and constitute the largest Necropolis in Menorca.
This small bay in the south of Menorca, in the 70s was well known for its hippie colony, which occupied its famous caves. Nowadays it is an ideal place for anchoring boats and spending the night there by boat, as it is very protected from storms and is an ANEI, making it a very special place.
It is an uncrowded place and although the two coves are not very comfortable, both in terms of access and available space, its sand is pink and it is an ideal place for snorkelling due to its rocky seabed on the sides of the bay. A perfect place to disconnect from the hustle and bustle of the world.
As they are virgin coves, there are no services available and it is advisable to wear shoes suitable for walking on the rocks. Also, if you decide to visit this little paradise, you should bring water, food and sun protection (especially some shade).
From the next cove, Cala'n Porter, where the famous Cova d'En Xoroi is located, we can rent some kayaks and visit this beautiful place and some of its caves (some of them are walled up due to the destruction caused by humans - of course!)

Ca s’Arader is named after Menorca’s artisan carpenters that used the wood from the indigenous wild olive tree to make all kinds of farming tools. In the olden days it was an essential role for the islands economy that was passed on from fathers to sons. Today, the few artisan carpenters or araders that are left, mostly make gates, tables, benches or stalls amongst other items.
